This Is What Happens when I let the kids test out new materials!

Updated: May 29

For art class we have to test out new ideas and materials often. Not all ideas go how you expect in reality. Luckily for me I have an eager team of testers ready to try out my latest ideas!

I thought making paint balloons would be so simple. I was so wrong!

The hurdles of testing these new materials:

1. How do you fill self-sealing water balloons with paint?

2. Since when do water balloons bounce instead of burst?!

👏 Please tell me in the comments if anyone you have any tips on a quicker way to fill the balloons!

The takeaways:

1. Getting paint into self sealing water balloons is way harder than I thought! ❌️ Without pressure (eg from a hose) the paint just sits at the top of the straws in a puddle.

2. If you disconnect the balloon from the straw and fill each one individually it works (but takes a while!)

3. I now know the ratio of paint:water to get the best paint splat ✔️

4. Kicking a water balloon is a lot of fun ✔️

5. Standing close to the canvas works better than throwing from far away. ✔️

6. Presenting paint balloons to kids at a party literally makes them scream!! (Which I took to mean my idea was a win!)

So there you have it. To paint balloon or not paint balloon!🎈 Despite the challenges I think they're worth it!

I don't know who needed to know this but if you did, you're welcome!

Happy Sunday!
