If you've been to a Bundabubs Art Play class you'll have seen the children squeezing the paint bottles and loving life. But why is it so good for them?
Partly it's just for the pure joy of it. The "I'm allowed to squeeze out as much paint as I want?" "Really??" What a thing to be allowed to do!
But in reality, there are a few more things than joy at play that make squeezing paint bottles one of the best activities for children. Firstly, it is all about the action of squeezing. It exercises the fine motor skills, the muscles in hands which need to be built up in order to do day to day tasks such as holding a pencil, writing, using scissors, getting dressed, putting on socks and shoes, eating, and more.
Secondly squeezing the paint bottles is one of the best activities because it is a sensory experience:
Touch - using hands to squeeze the paint out
Hear - the paint splatting on the canvas and the noise of air coming out (teehee).
Sight - watching paint drop from a height and splat is very visually appealing!
Such a lot of joy from one little bottle of paint!
We've got fine motor skills covered at art play: mixing paint, squeezing glue, sprinkling glitter & using their hands to move the paint around on the canvas. But what can you do at home? Head to our blog about Fine Motor at Home for tips!
